    Growing Community

Rock Creek Community Garden is a historical landmark in the Chevy Chase area of Washington, D.C. Located in Rock Creek Park, it was originally a Victory Garden in World War II, The Rock Creek Community Garden is protected by the National Park Service and has thrived in the community for generations.

The Rock Creek Community Garden is a membership organization with approximated 130 members, not including co=gardeners..

The Association makes plots available to new members from a waiting list that it maintains.  Typically, the largest number of plots become available in late winter and early spring.

Most members, including all new members, have single plots that are generally 10’x20’.

RCCG is part of a network of community gardens across Washington, D.C.

RCCG gardeners subscribe to organic and other good farming practices in order to maintain the integrity of the national park land as well as our environment. RCCG gardeners are committed to using organic gardening techniques no pesticides and only natural fertilizers.

This website is one source of information on how best to do that. Talking to the other gardeners while you’re at the garden is even better.  There is a wealth of information available from the many experienced gardeners in RCCG, so don’t hesitate to ask for advice on how to deal with pests or make your garden grow. There are so many good reasons to grow your own vegetables - the exercise and fun of working outside, the pleasure of eating nutritious food that you’ve grown yourself, and being part of a gardening community that wants your garden to be a success.
